Carbon Accounting & Climate Compliance
Measure what matters. We quantify your emissions, build audit-ready GHG inventories, and prepare your business for the reporting obligations that are already here.
What Is Carbon Accounting?
Carbon accounting is the systematic measurement and reporting of greenhouse gas emissions produced by an organisation's operations and value chain. It converts activity data — fuel use, electricity consumption, purchased materials, logistics — into tonnes of CO2 equivalent (tCO2e), giving you a quantified basis for compliance, target setting, and cost management.
This is no longer optional for most Irish businesses. The Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) requires auditable emissions disclosures. The Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) prices embedded emissions on imports. Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) commitments demand verified baseline data. Without accurate carbon accounting, you cannot meet any of these obligations.
The commercial case is equally concrete: companies that measure emissions identify energy waste, reduce input costs, and demonstrate climate credibility to customers, lenders, and procurement teams who increasingly require it.
The Three Scopes of Emissions
The GHG Protocol categorises emissions into three scopes. Understanding what falls where determines your reporting boundaries and reduction priorities.
Scope 1 — Direct Emissions
Fuel combustion, company vehicles, on-site processes, and fugitive emissions from equipment your organisation directly controls.
Scope 2 — Energy Indirect Emissions
Emissions from purchased electricity, steam, heating, and cooling consumed by your operations. Reported using location-based and market-based methods.
Scope 3 — Value Chain Emissions
Everything else: purchased goods and services, business travel, employee commuting, upstream transport, waste, and downstream product use. Typically 70-90% of a company's total footprint.
Key Deliverables
What you get from working with us — structured outputs that meet regulatory requirements and drive operational decisions.
Scope 1, 2 & 3 Carbon Footprinting
Complete organisational carbon footprint quantified in tonnes CO2e, with emission source mapping and activity data analysis.
ISO 14064 GHG Inventories
GHG inventories structured to ISO 14064-1, establishing organisational and operational boundaries with documented quantification methodologies.
Net-Zero Strategy & Reduction Planning
Prioritised decarbonisation roadmaps with costed reduction measures, interim targets, and progress tracking against baseline year.
Independent Verification Support
Preparation of GHG statements and supporting evidence packs for third-party verification, ensuring your data withstands external scrutiny.
Science-Based Target Setting (SBTi-aligned)
Target development aligned with SBTi criteria — near-term and long-term targets grounded in climate science and sector pathways.
How Clearscope Helps
End-to-end carbon accounting support — from first measurement through to ongoing compliance and reporting.
Baseline Carbon Footprints
We measure your starting point. A rigorous baseline footprint across Scope 1, 2, and 3 gives you the numbers you need to set targets, report to stakeholders, and identify where reductions deliver the most value.
Regulatory Compliance Reporting
CSRD, CBAM, and national climate reporting obligations require auditable emissions data. We prepare your disclosures to the standard regulators and assurance providers expect.
Supply Chain Emissions Mapping
Scope 3 is where most emissions sit and where most companies have the least visibility. We map your value chain, identify material emission sources, and build data collection processes with your suppliers.
Reduction Target Setting
We set measurable, time-bound reduction targets grounded in what your business can actually deliver — aligned with SBTi methodologies and sector benchmarks where applicable.
Data Systems & Ongoing Tracking
One-off footprints are useful. Ongoing measurement is what drives performance. We design data capture processes so your team can track emissions year-on-year without starting from scratch.
Board & Investor Reporting
Carbon data presented clearly for boards, investors, and lenders who need to understand your climate exposure, risk profile, and progress against commitments.
